Mariachi Performance and Culture Scholarship

Purpose:
The Fund is established to provide scholarships to the University’s current Mariachi students and prospective students interested in joining the Mariachi program.

Criteria:
The scholarship recipient shall:

  • Be meeting the University’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements and not be in default or owe any refund/repayment of federal, state or institutional aid
  • Be an admitted degree-seeking student enrolled at least half-time at the time of disbursement (6 or more credit hours)
  • Have a completed and current general scholarship application on file
  • Have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher during the term the scholarship award is received
  • Enroll in and participate in the Mariachi Ensemble (MUS 3818) and Mariachi instrumental lessons
  • Contribute to the annual Viva Southwest Mariachi Conference at the University through performance, coaching, administrative support, or other assigned roles

Preference is for the recipient to be pursuing a mariachi IDP (Individualized Degree Program) Major or Minor, or pursuing a Music Major or Minor.

  2. Will you be registered in Mariachi Ensemble (MUS 3818) in the fall and spring semesters of the upcoming academic year?
  3. Which of the following mariachi instruments do you play at an advanced level to participate and contribute to the Mariachi Ensemble: guitar, trumpet, violin, vihuela, guitarron? Do you play any other of the listed instruments at a basic or intermediate/advanced level?
