Anna Jo Garcia Haynes Endowed Fellowship

Purpose:
Provide scholarships to advanced junior and senior-level students who demonstrate a strong interest in policy and advocacy related to early childhood education (those aged from birth to five years old).

Anna Jo deeply believes that parents and teachers are the best advocates because they are with children every day and understand their needs, potential, challenges, and promise more than anyone else.

As the second largest and most diverse teacher education program in Colorado, the School of Education stands ready to impact every child and family with young children in the state through Anna Jo’s passion for advocacy that will continue at the University. With approximately 200 early childhood education (ECE) students in the program each year, the University can impact 4,000 children and their families each year by helping future teachers learn how to advocate for their students and communities. Through advocacy training, curriculum-building, seminars, research, leadership circles and summer workshops hosted on the campus, the University will provide a forum for ECE advocates at all levels to convene and hold the line on ECE equity in our state. Through this work, participants will champion advocacy for future legislation and policies that impact teachers, families and, of course, children.
