Dr. Linda B. White Integrative Health Endowed Scholarship

Purpose:
The fund is established to encourage the pursuit of graduate-level education among students in the Integrative Health Program (“IHP”), or a substantially identical program known by a different name, by offering financial assistance to those students in the IHP program with plans to pursue a master’s degree or doctorate after graduation. From 2004 to 2014, Linda B. White, M.D. taught in the Integrative Health Program. She developed the following classes: Botanical Pharmacology, Herbal Medicine, Stress and Sleep Science, and Writing for the Health Professions. She also revised Physiology of Aging and Holistic Pediatrics. She wrote a textbook now used in Dynamics of Health (Health Now: An Integrative Approach to Personal Health). Her magazine articles and books she coauthored (Kids, Herbs, and Health and The Herbal Drugstore) have been used as required reading in other courses. Her husband, Charles White, is an attorney with a strong interest in integrative medicine. Jeremy Jie Bird Casey, D.O. and Annaliese Marie Stone, D.O. are Metropolitan State University of Denver alumni. Both majored in what was then called Integrative Therapeutic Practices. In 2009, they fell in love on an independent study abroad program of traditional Chinese medicine in Xianyang, China. In 2011, Jie won the President’s award and was class valedictorian. That year, the couple married and began medical school at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker, CO. They graduated in 2015 and moved to Ellensburg, Washington for their family medicine residency. While at MSU, Dr. Casey and Dr. Stone received several scholarships. Their appreciation for that financial support, belief in the Integrative Health Program, and passion for health care led them to establish this scholarship in 2014—an act that coincided with the Whites’ own desire to establish an endowment for the same purposes.

Criteria:
• Be in compliance with MSU Denver’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements and not be in default or owe any refund/repayment of federal, state or institutional aid
• Complete the MSU Denver Office of Financial Aid Scholarship Application.
• Be a junior or senior
• Submit an essay 250 to 500 words in length elucidating the applicant’s plans to obtain an advanced degree and expressing how the applicant will use that education to benefit others
• Submit a current Degree Progress Report with the essay.
• Have declared a major in Integrative Health or Integrative Health Extended and express a genuine desire to continue his or her education at the graduate level

Renewal:
A junior-level recipient may apply to receive the scholarship again for his/her senior year.
