Larry C. Fenster Aviation Scholarship

Purpose
The Fund is established to provide scholarships to Aviation & Aerospace Sciences majors. The scholarship is established in loving memory of Larry C. Fenster, a private pilot who was passionate about flying. He would take great joy in knowing this Fund eases financial barriers that might prevent future pilots from achieving their goals.

Criteria
The scholarship recipient shall:
• Be meeting the University’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements and cannot be in default or owe any refund/repayment of federal, state or institutional aid
• Have financial need as determined by FAFSA/CAFSA and the University’s Office Financial Aid and Scholarships
• Be enrolled at least half-time (6 or more credit hours)
• Have a declared major in Aviation & Aerospace Sciences
• Be classified as a junior or senior at the time the scholarship is awarded
• Have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
• Be willing to report about how far along he/she is in pursuing their private pilot’s license.
• Be willing to provide documentation to the University’s Aviation & Aerospace Science Department of hours logged toward obtaining their private pilot’s license at the conclusion of the school year

The scholarship is for undergrad students only.
The scholarship is open to DACA, International, and other Undocumented students

When possible, the Donor’s preference is to provide a “full-ride” scholarship to the recipient. The Donor understands that because financial need is a criterion with this scholarship, it is possible/ likely that there will be funding over the tuition amount available. Unawarded scholarship dollars may be disbursed to a second awardee or retained in the Fund for future use.

Recipients of this scholarship may apply for additional flight training financial assistance via the ‘Flight Training Support’ fund through the University’s Aviation & Aerospace Science Department.
