Charles Branch Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Purpose:
This fund is to provide scholarships to students pursuing a human services degree. The fund honors the memory of Dr. Charles Branch who died February 11, 2013. Dr. Branch started his professional life as a jazz musician and high school band teacher in Kansas in 1952. He came to MSU Denver in 1978 as Dean of the School of Education. Over the years he held several other leadership positions, including Chair of the Human Services Department, Coordinator of the Center for High-Risk Youth Studies and Dean of the College of Professional Studies. He was a tenured professor of both teacher education and human services. Dr. Branch’s area of expertise was applied behavior analysis, and he believed in empowering students on their journey to academic success and real-world achievements.

Criteria:
• Have declared a human services major (at least 12 semester hours each semester)
• Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
• Be degree-seeking
• Have demonstrated a commitment to the field of human services
• Students must submit an essay that describes how they have made a positive change in their life and why they deserve this scholarship. Students must address how they meet the requirements and criteria for the scholarship. The essay should be approximately 500 words.

Renewal: Contingent on available funds, Students may apply for the scholarship even though he/she received an award in the past.
Awards to be limited to $1,000 per year and one student.
