Janice L. & James M. Velayas, Ph.D., Endowed Scholarship
Purpose:
Janice L. and James M. Velayas, Ph.D., wish to make an investment in the future of Statistics and Probability, which has contributed to their well being. James M. Velayas, Ph.D., is a graduate of Metropolitan State University of Denver, class of 1975. The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarship(s) that support promising Statistics and Probability majors at Metropolitan State University of Denver.
Criteria:
Scholarship recipient shall:
• Be meeting the University’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements and cannot be in default or owe any refund/repayment of federal, state or institutional aid
• Have a declared major in Mathematics with a Probability and Statistics concentration or have a declared major in Statistical Science
• Have cumulative GPA of 3.0
• Be enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours)
Preference is to award as close to a $2,000 scholarship as possible to two students each fall and two students each spring semester. (The donor’s intent is to see the award amount match any future increases in tuition and fees as set by the University. The Mathematics and Statistics Department will determine when award amounts need to be increased.)
Preference is to award students who show promise in the field of probability and statistics.
