MSU Denver Memorial Staff Endowed Scholarship

Purpose:
The Fund is established to provide scholarships to current University Employees (classified and administrative staff).
The Fund is derived from the former Castleman Saul Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund, the Darlynn Castleman Memorial Scholarship Fund, the Arlene Saul Memorial Fund and the Pamela Hitchcock Memorial Fund.
The former Metropolitan State University of Denver Classified Staff Council (now Staff Senate), in an effort to assist classified employees and their families with their educational pursuits, established two scholarship funds in 1990: The Darlynn Castleman Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund, and the Arlene Saul Endowed Memorial Fund; these were later combined.
The Darlynn Castleman Endowed Scholarship fund was established to honor Darlynn Castleman, a long-time classified employee who passed away in 1990. Ms. Castleman gave endless hours as an employee advocate and strongly encouraged the educational aspirations of the then College’s classified staff and their families.
The Arlene Saul Endowed Scholarship Fund was established to honor Arlene Saul, a 24-year
employee who passed away in December of 1989. Ms. Saul was well known for her
contributions toward the development of the University and her commitment to the students,
faculty, and staff of the institution.
The Pamela Hitchcock Memorial Fund was established in 1998 to honor Pamela Hitchcock,
a 1975 History graduate of the University and a twenty-year employee of the institution, who
passed away in 1997. Ms. Hitchcock’s service to the University included positions within
the School of Business, the Office of Academic Affairs and the Office of Student Services.
In addition to her endless commitment to the University, Ms. Hitchcock’s greatest joy and
number one priority was her role as a single parent. In that role, the importance of education
was always a main focus.
